Drums

I played the drums in high school marching band and in some small bands in my hometown.  Jamming with groovy musicians in dingy basements and dirty bars is one my favorite past-times.  The most influential drummers for me are Phil Collins, Carter Beauford, Gary Chaffee, Steve Smith, Mike Portnoy, Jeff Porcaro, Mickey Hart, Mick Fleetwood and Dave Weckl.  With the help of some of my mom's musician friends, I learned to play on the drum set before high school, imitating Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dave Matthews Band, Van Halen and AC/DC.  I am most interested in developing a relaxed playing feel and developing more coordinated independence in jazz and latin rhythms.  Recently I bought a Yamaha DTXPLORER electronic kit, which is a great practice kit, if lacking the dynamic sound and feel of the real deal.  Someday I hope to retire into a tutoring role with some regular live playing opportunities.
